Hey, I’m Leah!

Running coach, iFIT trainer, lover of fitness, wellness, and culture, and founder of Run the World Retreats.

In 2021, I traveled to Costa Rica and the Azores Islands to film running workouts for iFIT. What started as running became so much more: a way to experience joy, wonder, and adventure, immerse myself in new cultures, and connect more deeply with myself and the world around me.

In 2022, I had the privilege of hosting a retreat in Costa Rica with iFIT and a group of amazing women from the community. Sharing those experiences and watching connections form inspired me to create something of my own. I wanted to bring people together to explore the world through fitness, wellness, and meaningful cultural experiences.

And so, Run the World Retreats was born.

Today, I've teamed up with Inspired Ventures to create bespoke retreats for curious, active travelers who want more than a typical vacation — people who crave adventure, hands-on cultural experiences, and the chance to connect with a place and its people.

Our next adventure is extra special because YOU helped choose the destination: Croatia! 🇭🇷

Croatia was one of your top picks in our travel survey, and I couldn't be more excited to bring this adventure to life along the sparkling Adriatic coast.

Our itinerary blends fitness, wellness, and culture in the best possible way. Imagine starting your mornings with coffee before running or hiking through breathtaking national parks, discovering cascading waterfalls, and taking in sweeping mountain views. Spend your afternoons swimming in the crystal-clear Adriatic, exploring historic towns, or immersing yourself in a hands-on cooking experience with locals.

Some evenings are yours to explore at your own pace, while others bring us together to sip Croatian wine, taste local olive oils, and savor delicious regional dishes around the table.

general icon

Three highlights I'm especially excited about:

1. Two incredible national parks to kick things off.

We'll explore both Plitvice Lakes and Krka National Parks, with their glistening turquoise lakes, lush landscapes, and spectacular cascading waterfalls. What a way to start!

2. Discovering Croatia's history, towns, and culinary traditions.

We'll explore Split's ancient Diocletian's Palace, enjoy a run or hike on beautiful Marjan Hill, and experience the authentic village atmosphere in the Omiš hinterland through a local culinary experience.

3. Island life on Brač.

Think swimming in the Adriatic, optional kayaking, and hiking Vidova Gora for sweeping views across the islands. We'll wrap up with a special farewell dinner featuring olive oil, wine, and cheese tastings — all while enjoying beautiful accommodations, including a waterfront hotel on the island.

And that's just a taste of what's in store! We'll sprinkle in more runs, movement, delicious meals, and opportunities to slow down and soak up the Croatian coast.

This isn't a training camp. It's an opportunity to experience Croatia through movement, culture, food, nature, and connection — with thoughtfully planned adventures and time to relax, recharge, and explore at your own pace. You don't need to be a serious runner, just someone with a curious mind and a love of adventure.

I can't wait to explore Croatia with you. Here's to more adventure, deeper connections, and seeing where the world takes us next.

With love and wanderlust,

Leah

Zagreb → Plitvice Lakes. Arrive. Settle In. Connect.

We’re here! Our Croatian adventure begins at Zagreb Airport, where we’ll meet the group and travel south into Lika, Croatia’s beautiful green interior.

The journey to the Plitvice Lakes area takes approximately two hours. After checking into our hotel, the rest of the afternoon is free to settle in and recover from the journey.

This evening, we’ll come together for our welcome gathering and first dinner as a group, enjoying traditional home cooking from the Lika region and getting to know the people we’ll be sharing the week with.

Our Run the World Croatia adventure starts here.

Lakes, Waterfalls & Forest Trails

We'll start the day with an optional morning run through the beautiful forest surroundings of Plitvice Lakes.

Afterwards, we'll head into Plitvice Lakes National Park, aiming to enter by 10:30am at the latest to avoid the biggest crowds.

Our guided exploration begins at the Upper Lakes, before continuing towards the Lower Lakes, discovering turquoise lakes, waterfalls, forest trails and wooden boardwalks along the way.

At Lake Kozjak, there are two options. Take the electric boat across the lake or, for those who fancy stretching their legs, follow the forest path around the lake instead.

After exploring the park, we'll return to the hotel with the afternoon free to rest and recover.

This evening, we'll come back together for dinner.

Plitvice → Krka National Park → Split

Next stop: the Adriatic.

After breakfast, we leave Plitvice and continue south towards the coast, stopping along the way at another of Croatia's incredible natural landscapes.

At Krka National Park, we'll have the option to enjoy a scenic riverside run from Skradin towards Skradinski Buk waterfall.

Following a fine-gravel path alongside the river, the route is approximately 3.5km each way (7km return).

There's plenty of flexibility, with options to run both ways, run one way and take the park boat in the other direction, or explore at a more relaxed pace.

We'll also have time to discover the beautiful waterfalls of Krka National Park, before enjoying lunch at an old family mill at Roški Slap waterfall.

From here, we continue towards the coast and our next base in Split.

After checking into our accommodation, the evening is free to explore the city, find somewhere for dinner or simply relax.

Marjan Hill & Diocletian’s Palace

Running shoes on.

We’ll start our first morning in Split with a run on Marjan, the pine-covered headland rising directly out of the city.

With shaded paths, the sea on three sides and views across Split, it’s a brilliant setting to explore the city on foot.

After our run, we’ll slow the pace and discover Split’s historic heart with a licensed local guide.

We’ll explore Diocletian’s Palace, originally built as the retirement residence of a Roman emperor and now woven into the streets, homes and everyday life of modern Split.

Afterwards, we’ll enjoy lunch together.

The rest of the afternoon and evening are free to explore more of Split or simply take some downtime.

Day 5: Cook Like a Local & Escape to an Island

Split → Omiš Hinterland → Brač

Today, we’ll swap our running shoes for aprons.

We’ll travel south from Split towards Omiš before heading into the old stone villages of the Poljica hills for a hands-on soparnik cooking class.

Soparnik is a traditional dish from the region, made with Swiss chard and olive oil between two layers of hand-rolled dough and baked on an open hearth beneath embers and ash.

We’ll learn how to make it before sitting down to enjoy what we’ve prepared for lunch.

Then it’s time for island life.

We’ll return to Split and board the afternoon ferry across the Adriatic to Brač.

Once on the island, we’ll make our way to the charming seaside town of Postira, our home for the final three nights.

Overnight: Postira, Brač
Meals included: Breakfast and cooking-class lunch

Day 6: From Summit to Sea

Vidova Gora → Zlatni Rat

Mountains in the morning. Adriatic in the afternoon.

We’ll travel to Gažul, a traditional shepherds’ village, where we begin our hike towards Vidova Gora.

At 778 metres, Vidova Gora is the highest point on any island in the Adriatic. The hike up from Gažul takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, with views from the summit looking down towards Zlatni Rat and across the water towards the island of Hvar.

After making our way back down, we’ll enjoy lunch in Gažul, where a traditional peka or goulash will be prepared for the group.

Then we swap the mountains for the sea and head down to Zlatni Rat, Brač’s famous golden beach, with time for a long swim and to enjoy the coast.

A pretty good way to recover after a morning on the trails.

The evening is free.

Sea, Slow Miles & Our Farewell Evening

Today, you choose the pace.

After a week of exploring Croatia, our final full day gives you the freedom to enjoy Brač your way.

For those wanting to get moving, there's the option of a scenic coastal run directly from our hotel in Postira towards Supetar.

The route follows the coastline for approximately 8.7km one way, but guests can turn around whenever they like, making it easy to enjoy a shorter run.

Alternatively, explore the coastal paths, head to the beach, enjoy a slow morning or simply give the legs some well-earned downtime.

For anyone wanting another adventure, there will also be the option to join a guided sea kayaking experience along Brač's north coast, with swim stops along the way.

The afternoon remains free before we bring everyone back together at around 5pm for our final evening.

We'll head inland to visit the island's olive oil museum for a tour, followed by a tasting of the museum's own products. We'll enjoy local Brač olive oils alongside island cheese and wine, forming our farewell dinner together.

One final evening to eat well, raise a glass and celebrate everything we've experienced together.

Overnight: Postira, Brač
Meals included: Breakfast and tasting dinner

Optional: Guided sea kayaking is available at an additional cost.

Brač → Split

How did we get to Day 8 already?

Our final morning gives us one last chance to enjoy island life before heading home.

For anyone leaving later, there’s the option of an easy shakeout run along the coastal path or time for one final swim.

We’ll then take the ferry back to Split and transfer to Split Airport for our onward journeys.

For anyone wanting to extend their Croatian adventure, additional nights in Split or further down the coast can also be arranged.

Eight days of running, exploring and connecting across Croatia. Until the next adventure.

Experience Croatia Through Its Food

Running might be the thread that ties the week together, but food is a pretty important part of the adventure too.

As we travel from Croatia's green interior towards the Adriatic, we'll get to experience how the food changes with the landscape.

Breakfast is included every morning, along with three group lunches in Krka, Split and Brač, plus a traditional soparnik cooking class with lunch in the Omiš hinterland.

We'll also enjoy dinner together on our first two evenings and finish the retreat with a special olive oil museum tour and tasting dinner on Brač.

One of the highlights will be learning to make soparnik in the Poljica hills behind Omiš. Later in the week, we'll experience the flavours of Brač through local olive oil, cheese and wine during our farewell evening.

Not every meal is included. Some evenings are deliberately kept free, giving us the chance to explore the restaurants and food of Split and Postira independently.
