We're so happy to announce our trip to Bolivia in 2026 in partnership with Inspired Ventures!
Bolivia has a super diverse environment, a deep, colourful and fascinating culture, and the sense of embarking on an adventure that takes us well off the beaten track.
Our trip will be focused on photography, but everyone is welcome, regardless of photography level, age, equipment or physical condition. On this expedition, we intend to pass on all our photographic knowledge to the participants, from planning a photo to the final editing (and much more!).
There will be 10 days of photographic experiences in different landscape and light conditions, in addition to part of our time being dedicated to theory and post-editing. The group will be 12-14 people and all routes and tours will be done in a private car with a guide.
Bolivia is a South American country with incredibly varied terrain spanning across the Andes Mountain Range, the Atacama Desert and the Amazon Rainforest. The culture is bright, colourful and festive; it is also home to the highest percentage of indigenous people, therefore community-based tourism is popular and offers the best experiences with rich traditions.
La Paz is Bolivia’s capital and located at a whopping 3500 meters above sea level, making it the highest capital city in the world. Highlights and favourites of Bolivia are the Uyuni salt flats, the small town of Copacabana and the Islands of the Sun and Moon, with ancient history dating back to the Inca time period. Other top destinations are Lake Titicaca, the town of Potosi in the southern highlands, and Santa Cruz to the south. Wildlife in Bolivia is so biodiverse, species are still being discovered to this day. Thanks to the lush Amazon and mix of rugged terrains, the wildlife is rare and exotic.
Visit such iconic destinations as the Uyuni salt flat, the Bolivian Highlands, and the bustling city of La Paz. Other popular places to visit include Lake Titicaca, the town of Potosi in the southern highlands, and Santa Cruz to the south.

Welcome to the Highest Capital on Earth
Your photography expedition begins at the top of the world — literally. Upon landing at El Alto International Airport (4,060 m), you’ll step into the highest international airport on Earth. Located on the high plains above the city, El Alto offers your first panoramic glimpse of the breathtaking Andes that cradle the Bolivian capital. Your private driver will be waiting with a sign bearing your name for the approximately 50-minute transfer to your hotel in La Paz.
We recommend you fly in a day or two earlier and overnight at the same hotel as we're staying in to acclimatise better to the altitude.
La Paz City Tour
Once settled, dive into Bolivia’s political and cultural heart with a private half-day walking and driving tour of La Paz, a city bursting with contrasts — from colonial grandeur to Indigenous mysticism.
The La Paz Cable Car Experience
End your day with a truly unparalleled urban aerial journey. La Paz is home to the world’s largest cable car system (Mi Teleférico) — a sprawling network connecting the city’s highest and lowest points. Hop on one of the colorful lines for panoramic views of the valley below and the snow-capped Illimani standing watch in the distance.
Meals Included: Lunch & Welcome Dinner
Hotel: Met La Paz
Moon Valley & Valle de las Ánimas Hike
Today is all about capturing the otherworldly beauty of Bolivia’s natural sculptures — from lunar badlands to towering rock cathedrals. This half-day journey is packed with surreal textures, sweeping landscapes, and rare wildlife, making it a paradise for nature and landscape photography.
Moon Valley
Begin your exploration at Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley), a bizarre and breathtaking landscape sculpted by millennia of wind and rain. Despite its name, it's not a valley but a labyrinth of jagged clay formations and towering spires, resembling the surface of the moon.
The mineral-rich earth produces a palette of earthy tones — creamy beige, rust red, and deep purples — making this an ideal canvas for striking color contrasts and texture shots. Scattered throughout the formations are rare cactus species, including the San Pedro cactus, once used in ancient Andean rituals.
Valle de las Ánimas
After a short transfer toward the southern edge of La Paz, arrive at the peaceful Uni Lagoon, where your 2.5-hour downhill hike into the Valle de las Ánimas (Valley of the Souls) begins.
This dramatic valley is lined with rocky columns and natural spires, created by the same elemental erosion that shaped Moon Valley — but here, the formations are even taller, sharper, and more dramatic. The towering Illimani Mountain, sacred to the Aymara people, looms in the distance, its glacial face offering a mystical backdrop to your hike.
You’ll walk through a high-altitude canyon where endangered wildlife still roam — including vizcachas, chinchillas, and, if you're lucky, the Andean condor gliding high above.
Local Flavors & Return to La Paz
After the hike, relax and reflect with a transfer to a local restaurant selected for its ambiance and views. Then, return to your hotel in La Paz, with memory cards full and your spirit refreshed by Bolivia’s wild beauty.
Meals Included: Breakfast & Lunch
Hotel: Met La Paz
This excursion is weather-dependent and subject to trail conditions. We recommend sturdy shoes, sun protection, and lightweight equipment for low-light canyon shots.
Biking Death Road
Get ready for an adrenaline-pumping full-day descent down the infamous Death Road, officially known as Yungas Road. This is not just a cycling trip — it's a journey from icy Andean peaks to lush tropical valleys, spanning two ecosystems and over 3,600 meters of vertical drop.
La Paz to La Cumbre (4,760m)
Your adventure begins at 7:00 AM, when you meet your private guides and take a 45-minute scenic drive to La Cumbre Pass — a high-altitude world of snow-capped mountains and thin air. Here, you'll be outfitted with your high-performance mountain bike and full protective gear. Test your brakes, adjust your helmet, and breathe in that crisp mountain air.
22 km of High-Speed Thrills
The first leg of your ride is a 22 km descent on smooth asphalt, with panoramic views of steep valleys and clouds swirling below. You'll pass a Police Checkpoint, where a Bs. 50 road tax is required — have cash on hand. This is a great time to get comfortable with your bike while enjoying the raw grandeur of the landscape.
44 km of Stunning Scenery
Now, the real adventure begins. You’ll transition onto the original World’s Most Dangerous Road, a narrow 44 km stretch of gravel and dirt etched into the mountainside. With sheer vertical drops, waterfalls, mist, and tight corners, this route lives up to its reputation — but it also offers jaw-dropping photo opportunities unlike anywhere else on Earth.
Yolosa (1,100m)
By the time you reach Yolosa, you’ll be sweating in subtropical heat, surrounded by lush jungle. You’ve ridden from winter to summer in a matter of hours — a vertical plunge from glacier to rainforest, all under your own power.
La Senda Verde Wildlife Refuge
Celebrate your achievement at La Senda Verde, a peaceful animal rescue center and eco-lodge. Here, you’ll be welcomed with a cold beer, followed by a hearty salad and pasta lunch. Refresh with a hot shower (towels, shampoo, and soap provided) and relax amidst the sounds of rescued monkeys, birds, and other Amazonian creatures.
Meals Included: Breakfast & Lunch
Hotel: Met La Paz
Bring a full change of clothes (including dry shoes) for after the ride. This itinerary is weather-dependent — fog and rain may increase difficulty but also add mystique to your photos.
Morning Departure from El Alto to Uyuni
Begin the day with a short internal flight from El Alto to Uyuni, soaring over Bolivia’s dramatic high-altitude landscapes. Upon landing, prepare to explore one of the most surreal and photogenic places on Earth — the Uyuni Salt Flats.
Uyuni Town & Train Cemetery – A Glimpse into the Past
Kick off your tour at the emblematic Uyuni Clock, the symbolic heart of the town. Then, head out to the hauntingly beautiful Train Cemetery, a rusting graveyard of locomotives from the 1930s. This site is a dream for industrial and black-and-white photography.
Colchani Community – Salt Culture in Action
Next, visit the village of Colchani, just 20 km from Uyuni. Here, explore a traditional artisanal salt factory, where local families still extract salt using ancient methods. Photograph the mounds of salt crystals and hand-made salt products before heading deeper into the salt flats.
Salt Flat Wonders – Playa Blanca & Dakar
Enter the shimmering expanse of the Uyuni Salt Flats, where the white surface stretches beyond the horizon. Visit the famous Playa Blanca Salt Hotel, and stop at the Dakar Rally Monument. This is your chance to get creative with perspective and optical illusion photography — the endless white makes it the perfect canvas.
Incahuasi Island – The Island of Giants
Journey further to Incahuasi Island (Quechua for “House of the Inca”), a rocky oasis rising from the salt crust. Covered with giant cacti (Echinopsis atacamensis), this island offers panoramic views across the salar. The cacti, some over 10 meters tall, contrast beautifully with the flat white landscape.
Sunset on the Salt Flats
Once darkness falls, return to the salt flats for a private stargazing session. With some of the clearest skies in the world, Uyuni is a haven for astrophotography. Here, the Milky Way burns bright, and the salt crust sparkles like a galaxy beneath your feet.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Packed Lunch & Dinner
Hotel: Palacio de Sal
This itinerary may vary depending on weather conditions, especially during the rainy season (Dec–Apr), when the salt flats become a reflective mirror. Your guide will make real-time adjustments to ensure the best possible experience.
Sunrise Salt Flats Tour (2 hours)
Our day begins in the most unforgettable way: an early morning journey onto the Uyuni Salt Flats to witness the sunrise. As the first light touches the endless white expanse, the salt crust transforms into a surreal canvas of shifting colors — perfect for capturing ethereal, otherworldly shots. During the rainy season (Dec–Apr), the flats may turn into a shallow mirror, offering dramatic reflections — though cloudy skies may limit visibility. Your guide will advise on conditions before departure, but the final decision to embark is yours.
Tanupa Volcano
After sunrise, head north toward the mighty Tunupa Volcano, rising 5,432 meters above sea level. A scenic ascent brings you to a stunning viewpoint overlooking the salt flats — ideal for panoramic shots that stretch to the horizon. After descending, visit the indigenous village of Ayque, home to ancient ruins and mysterious “chullpares” (pre-Columbian funeral towers), which offer a glimpse into Bolivia’s rich ancestral history.
Star-gazing Salt Flats Tour (2 hours)
As night falls, return to the flats for an extraordinary celestial session. Thanks to the high altitude, minimal light pollution, and clear skies, Uyuni is one of the best stargazing spots in the world. Under the southern hemisphere’s sky, the Milky Way stretches across the horizon, mirrored by the glittering salt crystals below. It’s as if you’re floating in space.
Your guide will help you identify constellations and understand the cosmic stories above — all while you capture long-exposure shots of a sky bursting with stars.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Packed Lunch & Dinner
Hotel: Palacio de Sal.
All experiences are weather-dependent and subject to local conditions. Your guide will assess the situation and provide recommendations, but the decision to proceed remains with you. Refunds are not available for tours impacted by weather after departure.
Sunrise at the Uyuni Salt Flats (2 hours)
Begin your day before dawn with a private excursion onto the vast Uyuni Salt Flats. As the sun begins to rise, the endless horizon comes alive with breathtaking colors — from deep purples to golden yellows. The surreal silence and mirror-like landscape (during rainy season) create the perfect environment for dramatic and reflective photography.
Altiplanic Lagoons & Flamingos
As your journey continues, travel through Bolivia’s remote highland desert, reaching a series of Altiplanic lagoons framed by snow-capped volcanoes. These mineral-rich waters are home to vibrant colonies of flamingos, ducks, and wallata geese, offering an incredible chance to capture wildlife in pristine settings.
Surreal Rock Formations: The Stone Tree
Next, you'll encounter one of the region’s most iconic natural sculptures: the Stone Tree (Árbol de Piedra). This wind-carved formation stands isolated in the desert like a surreal monument — a striking subject set against the dramatic sky and desert plains.
Laguna Colorada – The Red Lagoon
Arrive at the stunning Laguna Colorada, a vibrant red-hued lake stretching over 54 km². Thousands of Andean, James’s, and Chilean flamingos wade through its shallow waters, drawn by algae and mineral deposits. The red coloration of the lake varies throughout the day, depending on sunlight and wind — offering a palette of unique photo opportunities.
Geysers of Sol de Mañana – Geothermal Wonderland
End your photographic journey at the Sol de Mañana Geyser field, one of the most active geothermal zones in South America. Capture surreal landscapes of bubbling mud pools, fumaroles, and jets of steam rising 10 to 50 meters into the crisp mountain air. The contrast between the raw earth and cool atmosphere creates an apocalyptic yet mesmerizing scene.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Packed Lunch & Dinner
Hotel: Polques Lodge
This entire itinerary is subject to change depending on weather and seasonal factors. Your guide will make real-time decisions to ensure safety and optimal conditions for exploration and photography.
Siloli Desert – A High-Altitude Martian Landscape
Begin your day in the breathtaking Siloli Desert, sitting at an altitude of 4,500 meters. This otherworldly expanse of volcanic ash and gravel is a dreamscape of twisted rock formations and windswept plains. Sculpted over millennia by relentless wind, these formations rise from the earth like natural art installations — stark, raw, and surreal.
Polques Thermal Baths – Soak & Shoot
After your desert trek, arrive at the soothing Polques Thermal Baths. Nestled against a stunning Andean backdrop, these 35°C hot springs offer not only a chance to relax, but also to photograph serene, steamy scenes of bathers immersed in nature.
Laguna Verde – The Emerald Jewel of the Andes
Next, travel to the striking Laguna Verde, a surreal emerald-hued lake set beneath the towering peak of Licancabur Volcano. The vivid green color is caused by its high mineral content — including magnesium and arsenic — and can appear more intense when stirred by wind.
Laguna Blanca – The White Lagoon
Conclude the day at the ethereal Laguna Blanca, whose waters shimmer with soft, milky tones due to borax and other light-colored minerals. This calm, almost ghostly lake is a quiet contrast to the vibrant Laguna Verde and provides a minimalist canvas for moody landscape shots.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Packed Lunch & Dinner
Hotel: Polques Lodge
As always, this itinerary is weather-dependent and may be altered for safety or optimal photographic conditions. Your guide will provide updates and recommendations throughout the day.
"Lost Italy” – Nature’s Stone Cathedral
Step into the surreal as you explore the legendary "Lost Italy", a mysterious and remote region filled with towering rocky formations sculpted by wind and time. These giant stone structures rise like ancient ruins — jagged, cathedral-like, and begging for wide-angle compositions.
Vinto Lagoon – High-Altitude Avian Haven
At 4,005 meters above sea level, the Vinto Lagoon is a peaceful, highland body of water frequented by flamingos and other migratory birds. Surrounded by mountain ridges and raw altiplano beauty, this is a perfect setting to practice wildlife photography in a quiet, untouched environment.
Catal Lagoon – The Hidden Jewel of the Altiplano
Next, make your way to Catal Lagoon, also known as the Hidden or Black Lagoon, nestled within bofedales — Andean highland wetlands rich in biodiversity. As you walk through this lush and spongy terrain, keep your eyes open for llamas and the elusive vizcachas (Andean rodents resembling rabbits), all set against a dramatic landscape.
Valley of Rocks – Imagination Unleashed
Your journey continues into the Valley of Rocks, where erosion has carved the land into a gallery of natural sculptures. These rock formations take on whimsical shapes — some say dragons, others say castles. This is a playground for creative photography.
Cañón de la Anaconda – Quinoa & Canyon Views
At the Cañón de la Anaconda, you’ll find dramatic desert canyons alongside quinoa fields (Sep–Mar), the golden grain of the Andes. The contrast of wild terrain and cultivated land is striking — a reminder of resilience in one of Earth’s harshest environments.
Villa Alota & the Swamp of Birds
Stop in the community of Villa Alota, where a picturesque swamp serves as a seasonal home for wallata geese, ducks, and occasional flamingos. It's a tranquil place where birdlife and Andean community life meet
.
San Cristóbal Church – A Monument Reborn
Conclude your day with a visit to the Church of San Cristóbal, a striking Jesuit structure that was meticulously relocated, stone by stone, 20 kilometers from its original site due to a massive mineral deposit. It's a powerful testament to history, faith, and cultural preservation.
Meals Included: Breakfast & Lunch
Hotel: Samay Wasi
This day’s itinerary is subject to modification depending on weather and terrain conditions. Your guide will ensure the best possible photographic and cultural experience.
Return to La Paz - The Scenic Route
