Departing Funchal early in the morning, we’ll head to Ribeira da Janela, arriving just in time to catch the sunrise. The early start will be well worth it as the day begins over the stunning landscape. After soaking in the morning light, we’ll continue to Fanal to explore its enchanted forest. This area is known for its ancient trees and misty atmosphere, truly a magical setting.

Next, we’ll embark on a trek along the Lagoa do Vento, a scenic route that will take us about an hour and a half. Our trek concludes at a serene lagoon, crowned with a beautiful waterfall - a perfect spot for some rest and photos.

From there, we head to Ponta do Pargo, followed by Porto Moniz, where we’ll enjoy some lunch and the famous natural laval pools.

On our way back to Funchal, we’ll pass through Seixal to visit its striking black beach, nestled at the foot of towering mountains, then through the quaint village of Sao Vicente.

Today you have the entire day free to relax and explore at your own pace, or you can dive into a more creative pursuit. This is the perfect time to sit down with Emily, who can talk you through how she edits photos and shares some tips to help you get the most out of your images. Additionally, your Fujifilm expert will be available to provide technical tips to enhance your photography skills and use of the equipment, ensuring you capture even more stunning images. 

Late afternoon, we’ll leave Funchal and head to either Fanal or Paul da Serra, two of the island’s most picturesque locations to capture the stunning golden hour at sunset. These spots are renowned for their breathtaking landscapes and provide the perfect backdrop for those magical sunset hues that photographers dream of.  

We’ll set up our camera stations after dinner to capture the night sky. Both these locations are known for their clear skies and minimal light pollution, making them ideal for night photography. Here, we’ll set up to capture breathtaking shots of the Milky Way. Whether you’re a seasoned astrophotographer or a novice eager to try something new, tonight offers a fantastic opportunity to practice capturing the stars. So, get your cameras ready for an unforgettable evening under the starlit sky!

Today we’ll dive into the heart of Funchal and our first stop is the bustling local market. This vibrant hub is the perfect place to immerse ourselves in the Madeiran culture and its lively atmosphere. Explore the stalls brimming with fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers and local crafts. It’s a fantastic opportunity to interact with local vendors, sample traditional delicacies and pick up some truly unique souvenirs found nowhere else in the world. 

From there, we’ll make our way to the beautiful cathedral, steeped in history and architectural beauty, to appreciate some of Funchal’s rich cultural heritage. Next, we’ll head up to Monte, a picturesque hilltop area with stunning views over the city. For a more thrilling descent, try the Toboggan ride back down! 

After lunch, our adventure continues as we visit Pico dos Barcelos, offering one of the best panoramic views of Funchal. Then it’s on to Eira do Serrado, where you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the valley and the remote village of Curral das Freiras, nestled between towering mountains.  

This evening, we’ll enjoy dinner in Camacha before making our way to Pico do Areeiro, one of Madeira’s highest peaks, to capture a truly magnificent golden hour The drive up offers spectacular views, and from the summit, we’ll be treated to an expansive panorama of the island bathed in the warm glow of the setting sun.

We’ll rise early this morning to catch the sunrise from Ponta de Sao Lourenco, one of Madeira’s most stunning viewpoints. This easternmost tip of the island offers breathtaking views with its dramatic cliffs and rugged coastal scenery. As we watch the first light of day illuminate the landscape, the vibrant colours and shadows cast by the rising sun will create a spectacular backdrop, perfect for unforgettable photographs.

With morning upon us, we’ll head to Faial, where you can visit the Miradouro do Guindaste, another spectacular viewpoint offering panoramic views of the north coast. Our lunch stop will be in Santana, famous for its traditional thatched triangular houses.

Post-lunch, we’re set for a short walk from Achadas do Teixeira up to Pico Ruivo. Here we’ll witness one of the most breathtaking views from Madeira’s highest peak, a truly unforgettable experience.

We’ll wrap up the day with a visit to Praia do Garajau, renowned for its crystal-clear waters and vibrant marine life. This stunning beach is a local favourite and a fantastic spot for snorkelling or simply taking a refreshing dip in the sea. As the day draws to a close, we’ll stay to watch the sunset, enjoying the peaceful ambiance as the sky and sea are painted in shades of orange and pink.

This morning we’re setting out early to journey to Pico do Areeiro again, but this time to reach the summit in time to witness the breathtaking sunrise. Watching the sun emerge above the horizon from this stunning vantage point is truly a magical experience. 

Heading back to the hotel in time for breakfast, the rest of the day will be free for you to do as you wish. Why not take the opportunity to embark on an exciting half-day catamaran trip. It’s the perfect way to relax on the open water and experience the thrill of spotting dolphins and whales in their natural habitat. 

This experience not only offers a chance to witness these majestic marine animals up close but also provides stunning views of the coastline from a unique vantage point.

Alternatively, you can spend the day relaxing at your leisure or spending more time with Emily or your Fujifilm expert in a workshop to enhance your photography skills and techniques.

Today, we’re set to explore one of Madeira’s most stunning trails, the Levada Ribeiro Frio to Portela, also known as the PR10. This route is renowned for its breathtaking beauty, weaving through lush landscapes and offering panoramic views that capture the essence of Madeira’s natural splendour.

As we follow the Levada (an irrigation channel unique to Madeira), we’ll be surrounded by vibrant greenery, indigenous flora, and the soothing sounds of flowing water. This trail is not just a walk, it’s an immersive experience into the heart of Madeira’s enchanting forests. Keep your eyes peeled for local wildlife and the variety of bird species that call this island home. 

Late afternoon, we’ll head back to the hotel for a quick rest and refresh before venturing out again, this time to Paul do Mar. This charming coastal spot is famed for its beautiful sunsets where the sky and sea merge in a spectacular display of colours. As we capture the sun dipping below the horizon, it’s the perfect opportunity to unwind and enjoy the tranquility.
