Angela Nicholson

Founder of SheClicks, camera reviewer, creative mentor and firm believer that your photography should reflect you

Angela is the founder of SheClicks and the driving force behind our community of over 14,500 female photographers. She’s been writing about cameras and photographic kit since 2004 – everything from compact cameras to medium format beasts – and she knows her way around a lens mount. She’s also a qualified drone pilot, seasoned podcast host and a big believer in demystifying photography so everyone can create the images they imagine.

After studying photography at the University of Westminster, Angela went on to become Technical Editor at Amateur Photographer, Head of Testing at Future Publishing and co-founder of Camera Jabber. These days, she’s focused entirely on SheClicks – running webinars, meet-ups, workshops and events, all designed to encourage and support female photographers at every stage of their journey.

On this trip to Glencoe, Angela will be co-leading alongside Emily Endean. Together, they’ll help you explore this stunning part of Scotland just as the autumnal tones are expected to be at their peak. Whether you’re capturing sweeping landscapes, misty glens or the warm glow of golden bracken, Angela will be there to guide you through settings, composition and creative choices – always with plenty of encouragement and a friendly, practical approach.

Angela is especially passionate about helping photographers find their look – not just follow trends. She’s likely to have one or two cameras with her to document the trip, but her focus is on helping you create images you’re proud of – even if it means crouching in the heather or getting caught in a passing shower.

Angela’s dream superpower? Instant keywording of every image she’s ever taken. Her favourite baked goods? Ginger cake, almond slices and anything that goes well with coffee. Her motto? Photography doesn’t have to be perfect – it just has to feel like yours.

So bring your camera, your curiosity and a willingness to experiment – Angela’s here to help you get the most from Glencoe’s glorious autumn colour!

Emily Endean

Photographer, storyteller, lover of wild places and someone who genuinely enjoys getting up before the sun.

Emily is co-leading the SheClicks trip to Glencoe, and if anyone can inspire you to venture out early with your camera in hand, it’s her. She’s a former Fujifilm X Photographer (Ambassador), an award-winning landscape and seascape specialist and someone who finds joy in dramatic skies, shifting light and the golden glow of autumn leaves.

Her photography journey began with a film camera and some wobbly childhood snaps, but things really took off in 2012 when she started Emily Endean Photography. Ten years later, she made the leap to full-time photography and has since been travelling the UK in a classic Hymer van with her wife and their pets – always in search of beautiful light, fresh coffee and the next great shot.

Emily’s love for the outdoors runs deep. She’s completely at home in nature, whether that’s beside the ocean or among the hills and lochs of Scotland. Her work has been featured in Amateur Photographer, Digital Camera and Outdoor Photography, and recognised by the British Photography Awards, Landscape Photographer of the Year, Garden Photographer of the Year and the Guild of Photographers. She also runs workshops, shares her knowledge through writing and speaks regularly at photography events.

On this trip, you’ll find her guiding you to great viewpoints, encouraging you to try new techniques and helping you connect more deeply with the landscape. We’ll be in Glencoe when the autumnal tones should be at their best – the perfect time to capture rich colours, moody atmospheres and those fleeting moments of magic that make autumn such a rewarding season to photograph. Emily’s relaxed, supportive and always ready with advice, whether you’re perfecting a composition or wondering if it’s too early for cake. (It isn’t.)

Her superpower wish? The ability to control the light (and possibly the midges). Her favourite baked good? A vegan sausage roll from her favourite coffee shop. Her photography motto? If you're a bit damp but your heart’s full, it was worth it.

So bring your boots, wrap up warm and get ready to explore Glencoe in all its autumn glory – Emily’s looking forward to seeing what you create!

Day 1

Day 1 image

Arrival in Glencoe

Welcome to Scotland!

Arriving into Glencoe village this afternoon, we’ll meet at a central point to start our adventure!

After introductions, we’ll ease into the trip with a gentle walk to Glencoe Lochan, a hidden woodland gem. With the evening light softening over the calm loch, and fiery autumn foliage reflecting in the water, it’s the perfect place to begin exploring our creativity in a relaxed setting.

Day 2

Day 2 image

Waterfalls, Mountains & Glen Etive Magic

An early start sees us heading out to capture one of Scotland’s most iconic views – Buachaille Etive Mór at sunrise. From the banks of the River Coupall, we’ll photograph the famous pyramid-shaped peak framed by rushing waterfalls and winding streams. As the first light hits the mountain’s face, the drama of Glencoe truly reveals itself.

Later in the morning, we’ll stop at Blackrock Cottage, a whitewashed bothy nestled beneath the mountain – a classic Highlands composition, especially with morning mist and moody skies.

After a break for lunch, we descend into the cinematic sweep of Glen Etive, a valley known for its cascading rivers, twisting roads, and possibly even a red deer or two. This peaceful glen offers countless opportunities to slow down and experiment with long exposures, leading lines, and atmospheric landscape work.

As the sun dips once more, we’ll capture golden light falling across Lagangarbh Hut, another striking Highland bothy framed by dramatic peaks – a perfect end to a day of pure photographic immersion.

Day 3

Day 3 image

Castles & Lochside Legends

Today begins with a sunrise excursion to Castle Stalker, perched on a tidal islet in Loch Laich. The calm morning light and potential mist drifting across the loch make for a magical setting. After a peaceful shoot, the journey continues to Kilchurn Castle, where ancient ruins rise from the shores of Loch Awe. Reflections, brooding clouds, and rolling hills make this an evocative and moody location.

After a lunch stop at a local café, the return journey to Glencoe will allow for scenic roadside stops, perhaps at Loch Leven or one of the lesser-known laybys with a view. The rest of the afternoon allows time for rest or photo editing, before an optional golden hour shoot revisiting a favourite location, depending on the weather and group preference.

The evening offers a relaxed workshop with Emily & Angela – from reviewing your best shots so far to discussing editing techniques and composition tips.

Day 4

Day 4 image

Steam, Sky & Serendipity

This morning, we’ll head west to Glenfinnan, where the famous viaduct curves through the glen beneath towering hills. If timed right, you'll photograph the Jacobite steam train puffing across the arches – a true storybook scene. With plenty of vantage points available, you’ll be guided in capturing both the vast landscape and the finer details of this iconic moment.

The afternoon offers free time to either explore more of Glenfinnan or return to Glencoe for a relaxed edit session and one-on-one guidance.

As sunset approaches, there’s an optional shoot depending on conditions – perhaps a return to Blackrock Cottage, River Etive, or even a final visit to Glencoe Lochan to capture the area in different light.

Day 5

Day 5 image

Farewell & Final Frames

On our final morning, there’s one last opportunity for a sunrise shoot – chosen based on conditions and group preference.

Whether we revisit Buachaille Etive Mór, find calm at Castle Stalker, or catch low mist over the glen, it’s a chance to end the journey with a personal favourite.

Cameras full, hearts full, and memories made in one of Scotland’s most soulful landscapes. Safe Travels
