From there, just sit back and relax as we take care of a smooth, easy ride straight to our beautiful hotel in Arusha. 

Our mountain guides will meet us at the hotel and do a full briefing and gear check.

Accommodation: Twin share at Mount Meru Hotel. 

Walking: 5 hours - 5kms/3.1miles.

After breakfast, we will transfer to the Machame gate. Enjoy a coffee or tea while our guides secure the climbing permits and then enter into the cover of the natural rain forest which surrounds the lower slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro. 

This part of the walk is very gradual with great photo opportunities as the sun’s rays filter through the dense canopy overhead with chances of seeing black and white colobus monkeys. 

Our first overnight is at Machame Camp and hot water is provided to refresh yourself before dinner.

Accommodation: Machame Camp - Camping.

Altitude: 2,980m/9,481f.

Walking: 5–7 hours - 5kms/3.1miles.

Today we will continue our ascent leaving the lushness of the rain forest behind us. 

This part of the walk cuts up along various ridges which are dotted with scrubby lowland bush and eventually gives way to the hardier Alpine flora of the open plateau.

The walk will take us 5 hrs - 6.5 hrs including our picnic lunch with stunning views as we begin to gain altitude.

On one side we will have the soft outline of Kilimanjaro towering over us and off in the distance stands Mount Meru.

Accommodation: Shira Camp - Camping.

Altitude: 3,840m/12,598f.

Walking: 7-8 hours - 11kms/6.8miles.

Enjoy a hot breakfast freshly prepared by our mountain chef and then begin a gradual climb cutting your way through the low Alpine bush. 

Bird watching on these open slopes can be rewarding with several different types of birds of prey scouring the scrub for small mammals. 

The scenery will change to rusty red moraine fields as you continue toward the Lava tower at 4,630m and finally descend to Barranco Camp. 

This is a good day for acclimatization as we reach a higher altitude than that of Baranco and walking times average between 5 - 7 hrs.

Accommodation: Baranco Camp - Camping.

Altitude: 3,900m/12,795f.

Walking: 3-4 hours - 11km/6.8miles.

After breakfast, we begin the daunting climb up the Baranco wall. 

It looks far worse than it is as you continue steadily to Karanga camp.

Enjoy a hot lunch on arrival followed by relaxation or enjoy a little walk in order to gain some altitude.

Accommodation: Karanga Camp - Camping.

Altitude: 3,995m/13,106f.

Walking: 5 hours - 3.2km/2miles.

This morning we will head around the South side of the mountain passing through the Alpine desert and moraine fields.

Barafu camp is reached in 4.5 hrs - 6hrs. 

Relax and soak up the vistas below us. 

Rest and try and get some sleep, we will be woken at around midnight for your final challenge.

Accommodation: Barafu Camp - Camping.

Altitude: 4,600m/15,091f.

Walking: After the summit 7-9 hours (5,895 meters) we will descend for another 5-6 hours of walking 16kms/10miles.

Gear up and start our ascent to the highest peak in Africa (Uhuru Peak) standing at 5,895m.

Have our cameras ready for when the sun winks a sleepy eye at us. After we’ve done the victory dance on the summit, we start the descent to Barafu Camp for breakfast and a short rest.

Proceed down toward Millennium Camp or Mweka Camp depending on the descent pace.

Accommodation: Mweka Camp - Camping

Altitude max: 5,985m/19,635f.

Walking: 3-4 hours to Mweka Gate.

The final stretch, proceeding back down into the forest, a beautiful walk again offering good bird-watching opportunities. 

There are some good view points en route looking into the valley below. 

Continue down to the gate for celebrations and champagne brunch with the entire team. 

Your transfer vehicle will be taking you to your hotel for well-deserved showers and relaxation.

Accommodation: Mount Meru Hotel.

Altitude: 1,640m/5,380f.

After breakfast, we will check out of our rooms. However we can use the hotel's main facilities until time for our transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport.

For anyone staying on for the safari add-on, you will now begin that leg of the adventure!

Depart from Arusha in the morning and begin the drive through a changing landscape to Lake Manyara National Park for game drives of this very diverse park. 

If we are lucky we may see the famous tree-climbing lions. 

Picnic lunch in the bush followed by game drives until mid-afternoon, then slowly make your way out of the park and onto the camp.

Accommodation: Isoitok Camp Manyara.

Early morning transfer to the Ngorongoro Crater and descend into the crater for game drives. There are 25,000 large mammals residing in the park. 

The elephants are mainly bulls, females stay out of the park due to it boasting the largest predator population in Africa. Black Rhino also make their home on the grassy plains. Leave the crater late afternoon and return to your accommodation.

Accommodation: Isoitok Camp Manyara.

Early morning meet our Maasai guide and continue down to a Boma (mud dwelling) for an introduction to the Maasai way of life, beliefs and rituals.

Return to the camp for breakfast. Slowly begin the drive towards Arusha where you will be dropped off at Kilimanjaro Airport for your flight connection back home.
