Svalbard is a Norwegian archipelago in the Arctic Ocean. Located on top of the world, it contains endless areas of unspoilt, raw Arctic wilderness. Svalbard consists of all the islands, islets and skerries between 74° and 81° north latitude and 10° and 35° east longitude. The largest island is Spitsbergen, while the highest mountain is Newtontoppen (1,713 m above sea level).

A visit to the High Arctic archipelago – roughly midway between mainland Norway and the North Pole – is full of contrasts and amazing nature-based experiences. The Arctic silence creates a unique atmosphere, and you will experience tranquillity that is virtually unrivalled anywhere else on Earth. Up here at 78° N, you will soon become part of the most beautiful Arctic adventure imaginable. Majestic mountains, blue sea ice, almost never-ending glaciers and a rich animal life dominate the landscape, which changes appearance during our three main seasons; from the colourful tundra of the Polar Summer, via the spectacular light show of the Northern Lights winter to the frozen fjords and endless snowy landscape of the Sunny Winter.

Who lives in Svalbard?
Just 1300 km from the North Pole, you can visit the world’s northernmost urban community, Longyearbyen. Most of the residents in this tiny Arctic metropolis are Norwegians, but there are residents from around 50 other countries. In all, around 2,100 people call this place “home”, and they enjoy a strong sense of unity and fellowship. Even in the middle of the settlement, you will get so close to the pristine nature that it will take your breath away.

Experience the Arctic nature up close on a snowmobile safari away from civilisation and into the endless wilderness.

Journeying to this part of Svalbard may just be one of the most humbling, memorable and awe-inspiring experiences you ever have!

• Dog Sledding Adventure

Experience an authentic Arctic adventure and learn the basics of being a real “musher”. The silence, and the interaction between dogs, people and nature, will make a real impression!

• Ice Cave Expedition

Moving through narrow and dark passageways, we explore a hidden and unknown underground world. The further in you go, the deeper it gets. We can admire formations in different colours and shades and discover ancient plant remains.  

• Seed Vault Bus Tour

Join us for an exciting historical bus tour from the days of coal mining to The Global Seed Vault on Svalbard, an extremely important place for all of us who call Earth our home!

• Hike between Glaciers and Mountains

Explore the region around the mountain of Sarkofagen. On each side of this colossus, we have some exciting glacier systems with moraines and meltwater channels. We will explore these as we make our way to the top of Sarkofagen at 500 meters above sea level. 

• Arctic wilderness evening

The feeling of being outside in the cold and dark Arctic wilderness is something you simply must experience. During this close-up encounter with nature, we will no doubt be pleased to have an armed guide looking after us. Far removed from the artificial light of Longyearbyen, we will have excellent conditions for hunting the Northern Lights and perhaps we will also spot Svalbard reindeer, grouse and foxes at close range.

Meet Amira on the 4th of April 2025 at Svalbard Longyearbyen Airport.

Our transfer to the hotel will be at 14:50 so you will need to book your flight to arrive so that you are ready to leave the airport by this time. We are unable to offer transfers outside of this time.

On the 9th of April, we bid a fond farewell to Svalbard as we check out of the hotel and transfer back to the airport for our flight home, taking with us beautiful memories of our time together at the top of the world.

Transfers are included only if arriving or departing on the 4th / 9th April at the stated times.

Please do not book your flights until we have confirmed this trip is going ahead.

Once we arrive at the airport we will transfer to our accommodation at 14h50 and have time to check into our lodge at 15h00.

Our driver will meet us at the airport and shuttle us as a group to the lodge.

The Coal Miners' Cabin will be our base for the next 6 days.

The hotel is located in Nybyen, Longyearbyen’s little ‘satellite town’, and is within walking distance from the town centre. In this building, the shared areas are popular, and late nights with long conversations and games might be on the horizon for the adventurous traveller. We bid you welcome to this great starting point for our next polar adventure.

Start 09h30 - 6 Hour Experience

We start by moving towards the mountain Sarkofagen.

On each side of this colossus, we have some exciting glacier systems with moraines and meltwater channels.

We will explore these as we make our way to the top of Sarkofagen at 500 meters above sea level.

Here we'll enjoy a great view of Longyearbyen and Isfjorden before we make our descent safely back to town.

We don’t need to travel far from Longyearbyen to achieve unique nature-based experiences. By driving approx. 35 km to Elveneset, we will be rewarded with views of several arms of the fjord and majestic mountains.

Visit the Arctic nature up close on a snowmobile safari away from civilisation and into the endless wilderness. On this safari, we will experience much of Svalbard within a short space of time. We drive from Longyearbyen to Elveneset, a viewpoint at the top of the De Geer valley. While warming up with a hot drink, you can enjoy the wonderful views of three fjords: the Sassenfjord, Tempelfjord and Billefjord.

“World’s most beautiful mountain”

Standing on the headland, we are surrounded by wild fjords in the mountain landscape. Across the fjord, we can see the mountain Templet, which local trappers often refer to as the “world’s most beautiful mountain”. The lines and shape of this mountain, which is reminiscent of a colossal temple, tell us about the history of Svalbard’s climate. The fjord arms surrounding us are the routes to areas of important historical significance for Svalbard.

After exploring the terrain at Elveneset and visiting a frozen waterfall, we head back to Longyearbyen. The total driving distance is approx. 70 km. This trip offers an excellent introduction to your Svalbard experience!

Camp Barentz Eve: Gain a historical insight at Camp Barentz, a cabin created in honour of the discoverer of Svalbard, Willem Barentz. A unique atmosphere and a delicious meal await us.

We will be picked up at our hotel and driven out to the camp in the Advent Valley, around 10 km east of Longyearbyen. 

We will pass areas associated with mining, Northern Lights research and the former airstrip dating from the Second World War.

Our hosts will warmly welcome us to an inspiring and informative evening. Willem Barentz discovered the islands of Bjørnøya and Spitsbergen during his Arctic expedition in 1596. During this expedition, he and his crew were forced to overwinter at Novaya Zemlya after their ship got stuck in the ice. The cabin they are now in is an authentic copy of the original cabin they overwintered in during a constant battle with the cold and illness.

Dog Sledding Adventure: Ice Cave Expedition - Adventure starts at 10h00

Experience an authentic Arctic adventure and learn the basics of being a real “musher”. The silence, and the interaction between dogs, people and nature, will make a real impression!

Our first stop is the dog yard located at the foot of the mountain Bolternosa, where we will be met by eager and friendly four-legged friends waiting to ensure we receive a warm welcome.

One of the highlights of dog sledding is the close-up contact we have with our own dog team. Challenge yourself to remember the dogs’ names, as each of them plays an integral part of the team. We harness and team up the dogs, get on the sleds and drive through the magnificent Arctic landscape. Our destination is a glacier hidden behind high mountains and moraines.

Glittering Snow Crystals in the Ice Cave

The slow pace allows plenty of time to let our eyes wander. The feeling of pure silence is broken only by the sound of the dogs breathing and the rhythmic sound of their paws hitting the snow-covered ground. As we gain altitude, some physical strength is required. When we reach the Teller Glacier, we let the dogs have a rest while we explore the deep interior of the glacier through a unique cave system under the ice.

We can admire formations in different colours and shades and discover ancient plant remains. When we emerge from the cave, we enjoy a delicious lunch before getting back on the sleds and returning to the dog yard.

Seed Vault Bus Tour

Our group will venture on an exciting bus tour of Longbearyen stopping at The Global Seed Vault.

The perfect way to get an overview of Longyearbyen and its surroundings. A local knowledgeable driver will provide us with insights into the city’s attractions and the fascinating history that defines Longyearbyen, no matter the season.

The tour will take us past several of Longyearbyen’s most famous landmarks, including the local mines, research areas, the town center, and the Svalbard Church, before we pass by the Global Seed Vault. 

Along the way, we’ll stop to capture the stunning scenery.  Weather conditions may affect the route, but the experience of Longyearbyen and its unique surroundings will be memorable regardless.

We will check out from the hotel around 10 am
